The Supernanny aired on ABC is from the original Supernanny British reality program. In the British edition of the show, the concept focuses on a nanny helping parents manage the misbehaving children. The British show features the professional nanny Jo Frost and for each episode, she helps a certain household control the misbehaving children. The show features the many ways and methods used by the nanny on how to control the children. Overall, the professional nanny from the show is known for her kind and her no-nonsense approach.

The ABC version of the show also features Jo Frost as the professional nanny. But this time, the show is being narrated by Jeff Bartsch. On each of the episodes of the show, the nanny will typically observe how the parents handle the day-to-day problems that they are facing in managing their kids. The moment the professional nanny has noted the many pitfalls and issues in parenting, and then she works with parents. The nanny in turn will promote her tried and tested methods that can be used to transform the rowdy behavior of the children. The moment the techniques of the nanny worked for the household, then it is expected that the homemaker should do the handling of the kids alone with the help of the parenting techniques of the Supernanny. It is then the duty of the professional nanny to check out on the household and verify if the suggestions are indeed followed. The methods of the nanny focus much on consistency, communication and the use of reasonable consequences for unwanted behavior. Supernanny has been hailed positively by the New York Times labeling the show as fascinating and a required viewing. Even Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman threw praises in the show. Other publications also echoed these sentiments, like Newsweek and The New Yorker.

From a video Christmas card to one of the most outrageous and irreverent shows on cable- this is one of the best ways to describe the origins of South Park. This is an animated sitcom as broadcast on Comedy Central and created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone geared towards the more mature audience. Up until this time, the duo still writes and creates the contents and the stories for the South Park.

The show is known for many things, but perhaps most will agree that the show is known for its rejection of political correctness, the use of crude humor and known as well for lampooning many topics. The series takes place in the tiny village of South Park, and the focus of the series is around the four children. There is the sensible but nervous Stan Marsh; the neurotic Kyle Broflovski; the fat one and the obnoxious Eric Cartman; and there is also the parka-wearing Kenny McCormick. There is an ongoing narrative and story line that involves the four children. The show was actually developed from two animated shorts also created by the duo in 1992 and 1995. The latter show gained prominence thru the internet file sharing site.
When the show was made available on Comedy Central, the comedy show generated good ratings and the availability of Comedy Central also increased as well. Since its start in 1997, South Park already has 188 episodes and considered to be the network’s highest rated program. Now on its 13th season, the writing duo of Matt Stone and Trey Parker are tied under contract to produce 14 more episodes and these episodes are expected to run until 2011. The episodes of South Park are known to thread on sensitive and risky issues yet it manages to get humor from it. The show is known as an “equal opportunity offender” which means that it manages to take both sides and even no sides on many issues.

Ugly Betty on ABC is an adaptation of the popular Telemundo TV show “Betty la Fea”. There are other adaptations that have been made based on this Telemundo show and these shows were shown in other countries. And all these adaptations, like the Ugly Betty in the US features the unattractive woman but cheerful and efficient secretary named Betty who falls for her boss.
The series revolves around Betty Suarez who is a good-hearted and a friendly person from Queens, New York. Betty is a brave and a lovable person whose life has changed the moment she was hired to become a personal assistant at a trendy fashion magazine, Mode. Mode is part of the publishing empire of the Bradford Meade and his family. The series strongly starts with the admission of Betty into the Mead fashion magazine even though Betty obviously lack the fashion sense and the beauty often seen in many workers involved with the fashion magazine industry. But the real motive of Betty’s hiring according to the story is that this can prevent the editor-in-chief Daniel Mead from getting into trouble. Daniel Mead of Mode has a history of being linked with his assistants, and in order to stop this from happening again the hiring of an unexpected assistant like Betty can prevent his indiscretions. As the show progressed, it was shown that Betty and Daniel started to trust one another and in the end they became friends and allies as well amidst the backdrop of the busy, entertaining and cruel fashion magazine industry.
Playing supporting casts in Ugly Betty are Wilhelmina Slater as the one who craves to become the editor-in-chief as assisted by her assistant Marc St. James. There is also the receptionist Amanda Sommers who make life difficult for Betty. Betty has friends in the office, like the kind-hearted seamstress and the accountant to whom she is attracted. America Ferrera plays Betty Suarez and Vanessa Williams plays the part of Wilhelmina Slater.

Background to the TV show The Simpsons

Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie are now household names thanks to the Simpsons series. This family has been a staple conversation about animation and TV shows thanks to the quality of content and focus on the show. This animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company is set on the fictional town of Springfield and tackles modern and serious issues like the American culture, the society, television and also the common plights of individuals. The show treats these serious topics lightly, thus making entertainment educational as well.

The Simpsons was started when Groening was asked to pitch for animated shorts, and the Simpsons was one of those created. The names of the family members were copied from the names of his family and substituted the name Bart for his name. The first batch of the animation was included in The Tracey Ullman Show and this was showcased on April, 1987. The actual debut of this animation happened on December 17, 1989, and from there the show never looked back. Overall, around 441 episodes have been broadcasted, and the twentieth season of the show started on September 28, 2007.

A spin-off movie was also made, The Simpsons Movie and this film was released in 2007 and has banked in around $527 million worldwide. The show has six main cast members, and these cast members provide the voices for the members of the family and the other characters of the show. There is Dan Castallaneta who voices for Homer Simpson, Abraham Simpson, Krusty The Clown, Barney Gumble and other adult characters. Marge Simpson’s voice is from Julie Kavner who also provides voices to other minor characters. Nancy Cartwright does the honors in providing the voice of Bart and the other children, and there is Yeardley Smith, the voice behind Lisa. The show is an award-winning TV show with citations coming from the Emmys and the Peabody.

Background to TV Show Scrubs.

“Scrubs” is a comedy series that tells the story of the life and the experiences of a new medical intern, John Dorian. The show chronicles the life and his experiences at the hospital as he interacts with the unpredictable staffers and patients of the hospital. John Dorian has his support group as well. There is Chris Turk played by Donald Faison as his college friend and an intern with the elite surgical group and there is the beautiful Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke. She is the medical intern and the object of JD’s affection. Playing supporting roles on Scrubs are Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins) who focuses more on profits and there is also Dr Phil Cox (John McGinley) and the jaded nurse Carla Espinosa.

“Scrubs”focuses on the unique vantage and the point of view of the show’s narrator and protagonist, JD. For each of the episodes of the Scrubs, there are multiple storylines that are treated and these many story threads are all linked thematically using the voice over done by the protagonist of the show. Another interesting feature of some of the episodes of the show is the presence of many comical dreams of JD and these are spiced with the traditional situation comedy style lines and these lines are often the product of the line improvisations coming from the lead actors of the show.

Every title of the show starts with the possessive pronoun like “My” and this is the case because for each episode Dr John Dorian writes his diary. There are some exemptions as well in terms of how the titles are made. Other than the narration of JD at the start and the end of every episode, there are also some narrations that are being made by other characters in the middle of these episodes.

Background to Lost TV Show

Survivors of the Oceanic Air flight 815 have to fight for survival in an unknown island and they have to discover their inner strength and the will to live in order to survive- this is the main storyline of the hit ABC show Lost. The moment they started to explore the island where the plane has crashed, this was the time that the survivors discovered for themselves that the island holds a number of secrets.

It is by their exploration that they have found out about the mysterious smoke monster, the polar bears and that strange French woman. The survivors also discovered that there is another group of settlers in the area, and this group is simply known as ‘The Others’. Their discoveries did not end there; they also found out that there were signs that indicate that a number of settlers have already resided in the area, and a notable evidence was the presence of ‘The Black Rock’ which is a 19th century ship, the ancient statue an signs of bunkers believed to be from the Dharma Initiative.

The Oceanic Flight 815 has 324 people, but it was revealed on the show that there were 71 survivors plus a dog. And at the start of the first season of Lost, 14 regular speaking roles were unveiled, and this made the show as the second largest show in terms of the number of cast. For the start of the first season, all 14 get the billing.

The actors for the first season of the show include Naveen Andrews, Emilie de Ravin as the pregnant Australian, Matthew Fox as the surgeon and the protagonist, Jorge Garcia plays Hugo Reyes as the lottery winner and Maggie Grace as Shannon Rutherford as the former teacher. Other actors for the first season includes Josh Holloway as the con man, Yunjin Kim played the daughter of a powerful Korean business man and Daniel Kim as her husband. The other actors on the list include Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O’Quinn, Harold Perrineau, Malcolm David Kelley and Ian Somerhalder. Due to the size of the cast plus the location, Lost was considered as one of the most expensive shows on television.

While doing her internship at the hospital, Dr Grey tries to follow the footsteps left by her famous surgeon mother and at the same time carrying the secret that her mom has the Alzheimer’s disease.
Background to Family Guy

Family Guy is an animated television sitcom that tells the story of Peter Griffin and his dysfunctional family. The show is the creation of Seth MacFarlane, and goes on air weekly. This half-hour cartoon is known for taking many topics lightly and nothing is sacred for the show. Anything goes for the show, which is the same formula used as well on The Simpsons and South Park. The series is set in Quahog in Rhode Island and chronicles not only the life of Peter Griffin but his family as well.

Peter is painted in the show as an impulsive father working at the local toy factory and he is credited for turning dysfunctional parenthood into an art form; there is the wife Lois as the frustrated social climber; another character in the show is that of the 16-year old daughter named Meg; the 13 year old Chris and there is the little Stewie. Stewie is a one year infant yet has an erudite vocabulary that can put other older kids to shame. Other member of the Griffin household is the martini-drinking dog Brian. Playing supporting roles to the dysfunctional Griffin family are their neighbors like Glen Quagmire. Family Guy is known to make use of cutaway gags, and the show is also known for using the jokes in the form of tangential vignettes.

The show was cancelled in 2000 and in 2002, but the performance of its DVDs prompted Fox to resume the animated TV show. Family Guy is known as the only one that has been twice resurrected on air thanks to the performance of its DVD sales. And since its return from the first and the second cancellation, a number of one-time characters from old episodes re-appeared with the focus still on the daily lives of the Griffin family. A feature film is in the pipeline, and according to Seth MacFarlane this can happen within the next year (2010).

Background to Desperate Housewives

Right after the death of a close friend, the normal suburban life of four-strong minded and eloquent women take a drastic turn. They were thrust into the kind of living wherein they have to face the best and the worst of what life has to offer. These four strong-willed women each have to deal with their own problems both outside and inside the four corners of their homes, and each year life offers them more mystery and more twists and dark turns. The lives of the four women behind closed doors is about to be revealed- and the revelations turns out to be fun but sometimes veer into the dark corners.

Desperate Housewives which is a creation of Marc Cherry and produced by ABC Studios and Cherry Productions star Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Hodge, Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis and Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Brit. Playing supporting cast for these four strong-willed women are Ricardo Chavira as Carlos Solis, Andrea Bowen as Julie Mayer, James Denton as Mike Delfin and Doug Savant as Tom Scavo. The voice over heard at the start of the show, and that of the friend of the four housewives is the voice of Brenda Strong voicing for the young Mary Alice Young. What makes the show rather unique is the addition of the voice over of the young Mary Alice Young, commenting on the lives the kinds of lives lived in Wisteria Lane from her unique point of view. And from that unique vantage point, Mary Alice has observed things more clearly than she ever did when she was alive.

The Desperate Housewives series premiered on October 2004 and has since received positive reviews from critics and its viewers. Desperate Housewives also received citations from Emmy, the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild.

The series is presented in real time, thus a 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer is depicted on the show.
